The Melbourne Institute for AI, Human Employment & Virtual Societies (MIAHEVS) is a non-profit research institute and policy think tank based in Melbourne, Australia. We are committed to shaping a fair, sustainable, and inclusive future in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

Our Vision

MIAHEVS was founded around a central question: As artificial intelligence and virtual technologies deeply penetrate our economies and societies, how can humanity preserve dignity, rights, and social cohesion?

Globally, AI is not only driving productivity gains but also triggering job restructuring, reshaping family and demographic patterns, and redefining models of governance. We believe that the fundamental challenge lies not in technology itself, but in how to safeguard human values and social resilience.

Our Core Concerns

  • Human Ethics and Dignity — ensuring that in a world of algorithms and automation, humans remain the ends, not the means.

  • Social Stability and Trust — addressing the long-term risks of job displacement, unequal distribution of income, and potential social fragmentation.

  • Balancing Virtual and Real Societies — exploring how to prevent the erosion of public health, psychological resilience, and social relationships in an era of expanding immersive virtual spaces.

  • The Survival of Future Generations — engaging with issues of population, family, and fertility, and rethinking pathways for human continuity in the age of AI.

Our Approach

We collaborate with governments, industry leaders, academia, and international organisations to design actionable institutional frameworks. Our methods combine policy design, scenario modelling, pilot experimentation, and project execution—ensuring that research outputs are translated into tangible social impact.

Why We Exist

While many institutions concentrate on the technical dimensions of AI, MIAHEVS focuses on what truly determines humanity’s future: how societies can sustain work, life, and cohesion in an AI-dominated era. We are both a source of ideas and a vehicle for implementation—not only generating thought but also designing, piloting, and delivering solutions.

Our Mission

To ensure that technological progress strengthens, rather than fragments, the social fabric—turning disruption into opportunity for all.
